Dear Sir,

I have searched the forum, before asking the below question. I am pretty new to Nitrogen Blanketting of Tanks, but I found this forum very useful in understanding the facts about Nitrogen Blanketing.

Please refer the attached P & ID for further details.

My question is

It seems that nitrogen pressure on top of the MEG surface could push it out through overflow dip pipe with this configuration. But by using a static loop seal this can be avoided, as mentioned in the notes (Note 15).

What is a static loop seal?
Can any one provide more details on this?
Where is it actually located in the overflow line?
How does it look like?
How can it be represented in the P &ID?

Any additional details on the static loop shall be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Kuriana

Dear Fallah,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Having read your reply, I have prepared a sketch, which is attached. Could you please suggest that my understanding of static loop is correct.

Secondly, since the design pressure of the tank is 56 mbarg = 0.521 m of liquid column (considering density of MEG), the height at the end of the overflow line, which is shown as 1500 mm (in the attachment) , should be a max. of 521 mm. Am I correct?

Is there any other design available for a static loop seal?

Regards,
Kuriana
