I was asked to design an evaporator for the separation of water form ethylene glycol. A series of evaporators were already present (as shown in the attached file) but I had some concerns having never done anything with evaporators before. For one I was confused with the evaporators shown in the figure as the evaporators I researched never had any packing or trays. Thus if this evaporator was to contain packing or trays which would be pro and cons for each. Finally would the evaporator be designed similarly to a distillation column.

I've attached a few documents to learn about the technology including  and heat and mass balances . This should be a good start for your work.

Evaporators are shell & tubes equipment .

To simulate a multi effect evaporator in a simulation program such as Aspen HYSYS, is it a good idea to use a few flash separators and intercoolers for simulation purpose?
