Hi! We are about to perform a laboratory scale testing regarding storing of untreated gas oils. This is to validate the gum formation if cracked (untreated) oils will be stored in a storage tank.

I would like to ask if any of you have already performed this? What I am thinking is that after storing the untreated cracked gas oil in a flask at different operating conditions (w/ and w/o nitrogen blanket, temperature change), I will include the following properties for testing (before and after storing the material):

1. Existent gum (to confirm increase in gum formation)

2. Color (change in color is possible when gas oil becomes in contact with oxygen)

Do you have any other suggestions in order to successfully gather representative results? Additional tests that will be necessary to confirm sludge/gum formation?

Please refer to my EBook, RTOL Laboratory Test Methods published by Amazon way back in 2004 in which I have described the Test Method "Evaluation of Diesel Stabilizers". which will answer what you are seeking. I have described other methods also which may be useful to you.

Okay. Will check it. Do you have also a test method for heavy coker gas oils?
