Dear Experts,

 

For selecting strainers we generally follow the free area should be minimum 4 times the CSA of pipe and pressure drop across strainer will be 0.01 bar (clean) & 0.2 bar (50% clogged). Is there any standards available for specifying/selecting strainers? As far as I know there is no such standrads and its all based on good practice. I have browsed through our forum and it has nearly the same data as I mentioned above.

 

Please share your ideas. Thanks in advance.

You are right, there is no specific standard to specify the strainers for various applications. Some companies have criteria for specifying strainers in their engineering practices...

Maybe You can review:

 

ASTM F1199 - 88(2015): Standard Specification for Cast (All Temperatures and Pressures) and Welded Pipe Line Strainers (150 psig and 150°F Maximum).

 

ASTM F1200 - 88(2016):Standard Specification for Fabricated (Welded) Pipe Line Strainers (Above 150 psig and 150°F).

 

Also API RP 686.
