MANUAL OVERRIDE OF ANTISURGE CONTROL SYSTEM OF COMPRESSOR PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IS THE REQUIREMENT OF MANUAL OVERRIDE IN ANTISURGE CONTROL (ASC) SYSTEM OF A COMPRESSOR. currently i am developing a design of Expander-Compressor where there is a requirement of Manual Override in Antisurge of compressor side of the machine. vendor cannot understand the requirement of this. Please help. 1. What is the requirement of the Manual Override 2. what exactly it does, whether takes the ASC valve in manual mode. 3. it will be helpfull to develop some graphs of the compressor Showing Surge Limit Line / Surge Control Line / Recycle Trip Line and the application of Manual override. Mark me if my question is not correct. Thanks, Anjal P.

Hi,

This clarification on the requirement of manual override for ASC, at first, should be performed by who has designed/prepared the P&ID and control philosophy of the mentioned compressor...then try asking them to clarify...

Hi,

The manuel override is required during the start up preparation of the expander and is part of the start up procedure required by the manufacturer in order to be sure that the surge valve is fully open and then the controller should be put back on auto mode before start up.

Anjal,

An anti-surge-system configuration usually allows an operator to open the anti-surge valve further than the valve position that is defined by the anti-surge controller (based on the controller algorithm) in manual-mode operation. However, the operator cannot close the anti-surge valve any further than the surge controller permits. The controller can override the manual mode, if necessary, to open the anti-surge valve.

This is what is meant by manual override.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur

Thanks Ankur.

Thanks all for our responses.

This was a requirement from FEED Datasheet, hence thought to retain it b4 understanding is clear.
MFR doesnot know what it is

Well Ankur.
Is that has to do anything with the Calibration of Antisurge valve and its associated instruments.

Like we take the ASV Control alve in manual mode and once Calibrated then to Auto Mode.

If it is ok to discuss..

Thanks,
