I recently installed the free version of PRODE Properties. I calculated the choked mass flux for liquid propane. The value seems quite low. Attached is the resultant calculation. The stream is 100% propane. Would someone check this value?

Thanks,

Bobby

edit: I corrected some errors. I am able to check the value as OK. As a note, I did not find a free version of Prode Properties for download. I am using an older version. Is there no longer a free version?

edit 2: I did download a free version. It requires a password, but the password is give at the download site. But it did not work. My Norton antivirus shut it down. Anyone else have this problem?

Bobby,

you can download the software here

http://www.prode.com/en/download.htm

in case of doubts (antivirus) you may wish to test file integrity with the SHA1 code provided in the page,

psw is friend, I have installed now the software without problems...

note that old Excel page may not work with last versions,

you may utilize instead the nozzle.xls page included in distribution (see below for graphics)

Thank you Paolo. It may have been that the problem was caused by using the old Excel file. I'll download the newest version on my laptop with Windows 8.1 and check it out.

edit: I installed it without problems. It works fine. I'll install it in my desktop now.

Well, I'm having difficulty when changing units. I changed a few and saved the archive with a different name. When I load it again using the nozzle spreadsheet, the proper units do not appear on the worksheet. They remain unchanged from the default set. An error message is displayed when run.  And I can't seem to delete any streams with the properties editor. I clear the components through the dialog, but they continue to appear on the streams page. The component list is blank on the components page. The manual does not really proved any useful help. Is there any other resource for using Prode Properties with Excel?

Bobby,
about the first problem (you do not see the results in nozzle.xls page when changing the units) it may depend from the VBA test for absolute values of tout (see below the VBA code), if you wish to set Celsius (or units which can originate negative values) just edit VBA in nozzle.xls
change
If (tout > 0 And area > 0) Then
to
If (Abs(tout) > 0 And area > 0) Then

I'll advise to update the nozzle.xls page in distribution

about the second point (you do not see changes in the list of components in Operating tab) the editor doesn't remove the old list until you will define a new valid list, if you put one component in the Components tab, for example methane, and then save data (Save button in operating page) you'll see the list of components updated

I think it should be easy to allow saving data even when the new list of components is void,
personally I prefer the test on all values (list of components etc.) so that when the stream is not well defined the procedure retains the old data, but there are inconveniences as you noted.

Edit

next week an updated version of Prode Properties editor will be available (to allow users to delete streams)

however note that you can obtain equivalent results in Excel with macros, Prode allows to access most methods in the library from any Excel cell,

for example to delete stream 1 simply type (in Excel)

=initS(1)

alternatively, if you wish to use VBA , you can edit, delete and change streams without problems...

Thank you Paolo. I will try changing units except for temperature. Then I can later change the VBA code if things work OK. That worked as advertised.

I have verified this morning by installing last version:

nozzle.xls has been updated and the editor allows to clear all components.
