Hello friends ;

I'm reading API 520 in order to understund set pressure , I found this figure .

Does set pressure is equal to design pressure of equipment ( red circle in the photo) ?

THANKS  A LOT

The set pressure of the RV for a vessel can depend on:

  • The governing (highest) flow scenario
  • The country / pressure vessel design standard
  • Where the RV is compared to the vessel it is protecting, ie inlet line length, and whether the RV is elevated above the vessel and the inlet line is liquid filled.  If these aspects are significant then the RV set pressure may need to be different to the design pressure of the vessel.
  • Sometimes there are process reasons or vessel condition (age) reasons that the RV should be set even lower.
  • There could be others.
