Hi my name is Michael Du from Philippines, i'm a student from the University of Santo Tomas. We have a subject called Plant Design and I am trying to design a molecular sieve bed for production of ethanol but i have no idea where to start or how to design one. Can anyone please help me? I've tried reading some books and searching the net but can find no topic regarding designing a molecular sieve bed. Any advice or help? I'm really lost.

See if you can find a copy of the Gas Processors Suppliers Association (GPSA) Engineering Data Book. The chapter (20) on dehydration goes step-by-step through molecular sieve bed design calculations and regeneration calculations in just four pages.

Michael:

PLEASE!  Stop posting multiple copies of the same topic in our Forums.  This is causing a mess by making our members respond to the different threads, not knowing which is the most important one.  It also messes with our Search machine, producing unnecessary excess baggage to handle and process.  I am deleting your other thread, but posting the Breizh respond below because it is, like Pilesar's, an important and experienced response:

Hi,
Using Google:

http://www.ethanolin...lar_sieves.html

Many more are available ....

Please obey my request.  All other students reading this, also take heed:  I will delete all multiple postings of the same topic.  We all have to act and behave like mature, logical, and smart engineers if we are to succeed in obtaining help and assistance from our peers.

Use this thread as your sole receptacle of all incoming responses.  I also have a lot of material to contribute and will do so when I get back from a medical appointment today.

Michael, I also congratulate you on attending such a famous and outstanding university like Santo Tomas is!

Hi Sir Montemayor. I apologize i didn't know that i had posted two of the same thread in this forum, my internet wasn't responding well this morning and i thought my first try didn't go through. Thank you sir for the information you have provided to help me with my design i really appreciate it! I'm really studying hard to be able to represent my school as a future chemical engineer. Again thank you sir! I again apologize for my mistake.

is there a simplified energy balance equation for a molecular sieve bed that separates water and ethanol? The equations i see are very complicated and i couldn't understand them
