Dear Fellow Engineers,

A BEM exchanger is about 50% under designed for the increased duty for the expansion project. The exchanger is 12inX10ft. In stead of being replaced, is it practical to just add a smaller one in parallel to cover the increased duty? Is the flow distribution a problem? Can we use flow ratio control to solve the problem?

Thank you for any advice.

Regards,

Leo

For such a small exchanger, it would probably be cheaper to replace it to avoid new piping, instrumentation, foundation, fire control, and other engineering costs.
