Hi,
What are the necessary parameters to estimate Joule Thomson valve cost?

Can we consider it as a control valve?

What is the range of cost for Joule Thomson valve reduce the pressure of (1.5MMscfd)from (14 bar) to (6bar) ?

Your positive response is highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Please be realistic and rational.

Do you expect our members to calculate the correct size of your valve and then give you a cost estimate?  We don't even know what country, economic and political situation you are in.  What currency are you dealing in?

Supply our members with a size and type,  and perhaps some member will offer a guess.

But if you really need a realistic and actual estimate, consult with a valve manufacturer.  (Unless you are a student who is trying to get answers to an academic assignment).

Of course, there is no such thing as a Joule Thompson valve. Thompson is the guy who first described the thermodynamics of reducing a stream pressure with hardware such as a valve.

If you don't have an in-house estimator (pretty handy!!) , or previous invoice archive for similar valves purchased, the best thing to do is to get in touch with a vendor. Specify the size of pressure reducing valve you require and ask for an estimate. If you are a student, your lecturer should have provided you with the sufficient tools / references to estimate a cost.

1- joule Thomson has discussed in thermodynamic but this phrase sometimes is used in industrial applications related to pressure drop, like process gas pressure drop valves known as JT or Joule Thomson valves.

2- if you look for a precise cost the best way is contact with a valve manufacture. For approximate purposes it can be get from Previous Project information(if available) or  software( like Aspen Economic Evaluation...).

To be fair the question  was 'what are the necessary parameters'.

So you could start by thinking of size, pressure class, materials of construction, what kind of actuator do you want, does it need to be ATEX rated?, does it need any special IP rating? Acoustic limits? Do you need the valve expediting?

Of course - do you have a certain valve type in mind?

A JT valve can be considered a control valve (across which a Joule Thomson expansion is taking place).
