Dear All,

Please share your learnings related to corrosion of glass due to NaF/KF in alkaline media( e.g. NaF>1000 PPM). As per my understanding it should not corrode glass if temperature is less than 40 Deg C, above that temperature irrespective of fluoride presence glass will itch based on pH & temp. of media.

If media is acidic then NaF will definitely corrode the glass (it gets converted to HF at higher temperature and leads to glass corrosion).

Good data is available for corrosion/itching of glass due to basicity but need to understand more regarding corrosion of glass due to NaF/KF (wrt their concentration and temperature)

Following information is available online on Pfaudler website for glass corrosion due to F , second graph  shows that F- in range of ~17 PPM will not corrode glass if media is alkaline. Above 17PPM no data available L, I want to know what if F- is very high ( >1000 PPM) and media is alkaline. Third graph shows that with pH of 1 at 80 Deg C, 17 PPM fluoride will lead to corrosion without any additive.

Please share your learning/understanding or any available literature we use MSGLR reactor

I have worked & independently handled Glass Lines reactors where we were using Ortho Nitro Toulene  solvent in MSGL Reactor in a Batch Process & heated after adding all reactants ( Urea, Pthalic Anhydride & Cuprous chloride in Powder/ flakes form  & Ammonium Molybadate as a catalyst). We use all mass upto 180 Degree C Temp. by using thermic fluid ).

But, we have corrosion due to damage of Glass Lining inside reactor due to material scraping done during operation by mistake.

You may consult following vendor for better understanding : http://www.gmmpfaudl...d-equipment.php
