Dear All,
Please share your learnings related to corrosion of glass due to NaF/KF in alkaline media( e.g. NaF>1000 PPM). As per my understanding it should not corrode glass if temperature is less than 40 Deg C, above that temperature irrespective of fluoride presence glass will itch based on pH & temp. of media.
If media is acidic then NaF will definitely corrode the glass (it gets converted to HF at higher temperature and leads to glass corrosion).
Good data is available for corrosion/itching of glass due to basicity but need to understand more regarding corrosion of glass due to NaF/KF (wrt their concentration and temperature)
Following information is available online on Pfaudler website for glass corrosion due to F‑ , second graph shows that F- in range of ~17 PPM will not corrode glass if media is alkaline. Above 17PPM no data available L, I want to know what if F- is very high ( >1000 PPM) and media is alkaline. Third graph shows that with pH of 1 at 80 Deg C, 17 PPM fluoride will lead to corrosion without any additive.
Please share your learning/understanding or any available literature we use MSGLR reactor
