Dear Sirs,

We are planning to upgrade the Heat exchanger (AET type) material from CS to Alloy 825 or 625 and please let me know it will affect or changes in  thermal design occur? and also on mechanical design? please advise me.

And other than this, what factors needs to be considered from design point of view for upgrading the material?

Existing material : Shell : SA516 Gr.70 (HIC) AND Tube : SA 179

Thank you,

Regards,

Sameer

Hi ,

Consider the link attached for the thermal and physical properties of the steel and others alloys .

Hope this is going to help you.

The effect on the thermal performance depends on the nature of the service. For services with low heat transfer coefficients, the thermal conductivity of the tubing will have little effect.

Hi,

As Srfish said, it depends on the fluids exchanging the heat. For instance if one of them is air, gas or industrial oil, due to the low heat transfer coefficient, their resistance will be detrimental and changing the metal and consequent thermal conductivity will not have a remarkable impact on the heat transfer rate. This means that, in most cases, replacing the tube with another material does not impact a service.

You can also check it with HTFS software.
