Dear Fellow Engineers,

In a LPG Amine Contactor, the amine is the continuous phase from the top and LPG is the dispersed phase from the bottom.

As shown in the picture attached, I am trying to understand how the redistributors between packing beds work. Based on my understanding, the tiny orifices (1) are the passes for LPG and the bigger tubes (2) are downcomers for amine. What is the purpose of the items marked as (3)?

Thank you.

Regards,

Leo

I would look at vendor sites. Try Sulzer and Koch-Glitsch to start. Also Jaeger.

Bobby,

Thank you. I also hope somebody who knows about it can shed some light.

Regards,

Leo

The trays are assembled in sections. The detail on the right shows the assembled tray, viewing the edge. The downcomers are shown on the right side of the detail which is the bottom of the tray. The things you label as 3 are simply the flanges connecting sections together. The picture is not clear enough to discern more. But if you study the drawing carefully, you will see that each tray is composed of multiple panels bolted together. This distributor looks to be quite old.

Bobby,

Thank you very much. I thought these things are used to connect the sections together but just wasn't sure. I am going to delete the picture since it belongs to a client.

Leo
