Hello everyone,

I need your help in the following two scenarios:

- How to estimate ethylene concentration in Toluene, I have a reactor with a volume of 800 mL where 400 mL of toluene will be added, then, temperature is increased to 140 C and ethylene is introduced with a pressure of 10 barg. How can I estimate the ethylene concentration in toluene either by calculation or using Aspen Plus.

- The second case is similar but the solvent is Silicone oil (300 mL) and Toluene (100 mL), I was thinking of trying to estimate ethylene concentration in this case experimentally but couldn't really figure it out.

Thank you in advance ...

You should find the binary curve of Toluene-ethylene in 10 barg and 140 C if the pressure of the reactor remains at 10 barg regardless of any reaction.

By aspen plus , you can simply find the materials from data and a state-equation such as Peng-Robinson and in simulation environment define a separator/vessel and then enter both materials into the vessel.

Note that the flow of ethylene gas to be specified.

So , at the outlets you can see the concentration of ethylene in both phases.

for further question, contact.

Thank you so much Mahdi for your kind help.

Anyone have some ideas on the scenario with the oil ? the oil doesn't exist in Aspen, so it must be approached experimentally i presume ??!!

Regards,
