ASME VIII lists the types of pressure vessels that are exempt from the requirements of the Code, which includes the following clause.  If the vessel is made of:

©(2)(e)

Piping components, such as pipe, flanges, bolting, gaskets, valves, expansion joints, and fittings, and the pressure containing parts of other components, such as strainers and devices which service such purposes as mixing, separating, subbing, distributing, and metering or controlling flow, provided that pressure containing parts of such components are generally recognized as piping components or accessories.

Can we use this clause, and construct a fuel gas KO pot (e.g. 12" dia. x 3' length) entirely out of piping components (12" pipe, caps or blind flange, pipe stub-ins for inlet and outlet) and exempt it from ASME VIII, and potentially avoid putting a pressure relief protection?  Only applicable overpressure scenario for the vessel would be a fire case.

If so, is there a size limit on the vessel?

Thank you in advance.
