Dear All

Presently I am working on project-  refrigerated LPG terminal facility. at terminal  refrigerated propane at -42 DEG C needs to be heated to 15 DEGC in order to do blending  it with Butane ( LPG MIX - Propane & Butane 50: 50) and further store the LPG mix in Pressurized Bullet TANKS.

I am looking for most economical option for heating propane  by doing  value engineering. presently Propane heating is proposed by using sea water ( In / out temperature is 25 & 20 Deg C respectively ) . I had searched for technical papers  & found that Ambient air vaporizer is the better alternative or option for sea water heating.

Seeking for valuable suggestion or advise from respected forum members .

Regards

VP

Do you have any heating medium available, such as steam or hot oil? There may be some local restrictions regarding seawater. You should consider a fire tube water bath heater if you have gas available. Or use butane or propane for fuel. Ambient air heaters might work depending on the duty, assuming your ambient temperature is satisfactory in winter.

Maybe you can just mix them and let them warm in storage.

Depends on what your minimum ambient temperature is going to be.  If it is below -15C, winter / nighttime, then you would need additional powered heaters in order to bring it up to spec.

What flowrate / duty are you considering?

Dear  Members

thanks for the reply .

pl. fine below points.

LPG import terminal is coming at far east location , Malaysia , where min & max Ambient temperature is 20 & 40 DEG C.

I am in discussion with client for alternative proposal for heating of butane liquid from -42 DEG C to 15 DEG C.

as per initial study, Ambient air vaporizer can be alternative solution for propane heating instead of sea water heating.  Main environmental concern for ambient air vaporizer is the humidity level ?

pl. find attached current proposed propane  heating system details using sea water as heating medium.

I request to have look in to the system & suggest better solution for propane heating or shall I go with ambient air vaporizer.

client has concern about initial capital cost for implementing sea water heating system.

awaiting for valuable suggestion / feedback from respected forum members.

Capital cost for ambient air vaporisers tend to be quite high, but you can recuperate costs as your operating costs reduce to do reduced power requirement.

If by humidity, you are concerned by icing loading or fogging from the AAVs, then they can be reduced by various means but then you do have some power requirements, not as much as other technologies though.

With a minimum of 20C ambient temperature, you may need some additional trim heating after the AAVs to keep the gas at spec.

Not justified or satisfied by the response received - IGC. so option of AAV is ruled out ?

I had provided sufficient information about propane heating  using sea water .

seeking best alternative solution for the  system  keeping in mind  economics and best operational  performance.

Dear Booby, ankur  , art, can you please help me out .

regards

Looks to me your client is paying you for this work. We're not in the habit of giving free design services. You probably have all you need to pursue viable alternatives.

I am seeking for valuable advice or guidance from respected members.
