Hello all,

I work as a process engineer in a refinery. We are trying to extend and improve our current Topping atmosferic tower simulation with HYSYS.

One of the objectives is to update and futher specify the internals of the tower. We have been able to characterize FLEXIPAC 4Y, FLEXIPAC 2Y, FLEXIGRID 2 and 3 but unfortunatelly HYSYS does not appear to have PROFLUX 45 packing type made by Koch-Glitsch in it's library.
We have a 10 layer PROFLUX 45 packing in the stripping section of our tower.

Is it possible to add this packing type to HYSYS? If not, what could be an equivalent packing type already included in HYSYS?

Thank you

Have you tried the Aspen Tech support site? You get most answers there.

Hello,

You can try KG-Tower free software, then type pressure profile to HYSYS model.

First, you should create KG-Tower export file in HYSYS. It's available from the Internals directory.

Proflux 45 is actually severe service grid and not the structured packing. You may use an equivalent grid available, the hydraulics and pressure drop characteristics accuracy will be slightly compromised however the mass transfer efficiency remains as is unless you are running a rate based model and not an equilibrium model. In case of rate based model, column internals will have impact on separation in addition to hydraulics.

An alternate is to select a generic grid and provide available details, but not sure on accuracy of pressure drop estimation with generic grid.
