Hello,

 

If the contents of a reactor are being distilled under vacuum through a condenser, and a receiving vessel is collecting the distillate, why is a balance line connected from the receiver to the vacuum line on the reactor? 

 

It would be appreciated if someone could give me a description of exactly what the balance line is doing. Also should there be an independent vacuum supply to the receiver also?
