Dear all experts,

Can any one help me with the simulation of furnace using HYSYS model? I am hoping some who has done this can share your thoughts with me.

I am trying to model the steam generator using HYSYS with the Steady State mode.

With this model I want to know what heat transfer within the system, and with this also know how much heat can be transferred from the Radiant zone to the convective zone to reach the desire outlet temperature from convective zone.

Please see the attached sketch.

Input:

Water :

Temp. = 110 oC

Press. = 1500 kPa

Mass Flow = 3000 kg/hr

Composition = 100% mol water

Output:

Steam:

Desire Temp = 400 oC

The question I would like to ask:

  • Why I got the same Temperature at convective zone (Tin = Tout)? I increase the fuel gas temperature and mass flow, it can only increase radiant zone temperature (convective zone temperature remain the same)
  • How can I define heat transfer in radiant and convective zones? How much heat i need to reach my Steam temperature of 400 oC.

Any body is familiar with this type of simulation so that can explain or guide in this regard.

there is a similar question at eng-tips

I think the answer could be the same also in this case,

you can try to define separately combustion and exchangers,

but doesn't seem easy.

Thanks @serra.

So, does it mean I have to create two furnaces in one flowsheet?

I am trying to get this by using HYSYS EDR model as well. This pretty good with the information from the EDR. But, the issues I got is to make the convection section reflect the existing design of the furnace.

Someone might have done the EDR model for fired heater,  I would really appreciate if you can share some insight into this?

Thank you in advance

you can solve with a different software and import values,

or you can write a specific procedure, I have Matlab (with Prode Properties) but you can link different applications.
