Is 20 m/s for a gas pipeline too high? The diameter of the pipe is 0.6 m and the Re is turbulent (in the magnitude of 10^6). The pressure drop seems high, i can increase the pipeline diameter to 0.9 m, and this would give me a velocity of less than 10 m/s but that pipe diameter would seem too high to me

If this is a long pipeline for natural gas transmission then the usual route to sizing is to optimize the size for the intended purpose. And this could be any variety of scenarios. So, there is no single correct answer to you question. Maybe if you provide more information a member can help.
