The reaction which takes place in reactor is:

CaCO3(s) +  2HCl(aq)  ----------->  CaCl2(aq) + H2O(liq) + CO2(g)

  • In the project of CaCl2 production, we need help for energy balance. Since the reactor output is a mixture of unreacted CaCO3, unreacted HCl, formed CaCl2 and water, so for the energy balance we need to calculate the enthalpy of this stream. So if any of you would guide us how to calculate the mixture enthalpy, it would be of great help.
  • Also, we need to design reactor for the above process, but since it involves all the three phases CaCO3 being solid, formed CO2 being gas and remaining aqueous solution, we are not able to design it. We need kinetic data for the above reaction as well like the order of the reaction and the value of rate constant.
  • We searched on internet about the value of overall heat transfer coefficient for the evaporation of CaClsolution, so that we can design evaporator.
  • The production process involves granulator which produces granules of CaCl2 from concentrated solution of CaCl2. We need to do mass and energy balance on it as well as we need to design it. So any guidance in this regard would be of very much help.
