Hi,

I was wondering what are the most commonly used software to develop PFD and P&IDs (preferably both with the same software)?

Are there anyone you particularly recommend, such as Autodesk Plant 3D?

Thank you in advance

This depends on whether you want a simple drawing or you want something with a database underneath (intelligent P&IDs) that could be linked to other datasets (equipment, line list, instrument list, 3D model, etc.)

I think the intelligent P&ID as the project progresses, but a simple P&ID system would be useful as well.

What software do you personally use most?

Thanks

SmartPlant P&ID for complex project and AutoCAD for simply one.

Thank you all for your messages. Everyone I work with are experimental chemists and the chemical engineers are from external companies, and I was wondering what are the most professional softwares to use during our communication.

So the consensus is:

  • Autodesk 3D plant for P&ID (AutoCad P&ID has been replaced by this now)
  • Visio for PFDs (I have always used this for both but my design processes has been quite rudimentary - My other experiences has been as an operator so only using P&IDs)

Any other alternatives you would recommend for PFDs?

Thanks
