Hi,

In my plant I have two pumps for pumping 300 Ton of water per hour. Pump rated flow is 300 Ton per hour. One pump kept as standby while other is running.

Now I need a continuous flow requirement of 400 Ton per hour for that both pumps need kept running.

I need a third pump.

Should I install it of same size & capacity as existing pump or lesser capacity?

Regards,

Deep

Both of them should work. It is up to the line-up of the pumps, pipes, controls, parameters of pumps.

It's not quite that simple. So the advice you got is misleading.

Deep,

It absolutely depends on the pumps and system curves...

You'll need to evaluate the whole system (design conditions, ...) in which the pumps are operating to guarantee a safe transition to this new flow rate.

Read these two articles from Joe Evans. Great article explaining the subject in simple terms.
