Dear All,

I need your help on the latest issue that we are experiencing. Our Charge Gas Compressor 3rd stage discharge drum level control valve is getting frequently plugged. streams coming to this drums are:

1) CGC 3rd stage discharge, which is the main flow.

2) Light end column vents (very minor & all gas).

3) Water from CGC 4th Stage discharge drum, but no sigh of pluggage in control valve on 4th stage.

Did anybody have seen issue like this, what could be the potential cause.

Kindly help.

Regards

You might get some response if we knew what you were asking about.

- Have you analyzed the material that clogs the control valve?

- It is a Gas Charge Compressor to what process/unit?

- What are those light ends ?

- What is the main flow composition?

- What is the material of the drum and piping.

- How long since the last cleaning of the drum

- Has happened before? Asked operators about this?

- Does the liquid comes from the bottom with an outlet  flush with the bottom, projected inside, with a vortex breaker, coming from the side?

-  How much liquid do you have? it is a 3/4 inch valve what gets plugged or a 4 inches one?

What I have experienced (bot not sure if it applies to your case, since I don't know what your case is) is rust that accumulates in the bottom of the knock out drums. It is solved by  periodically cleaning the vessel and by taking the liquid a few cm above the very bottom of the tank.

Thanks Saml for your response.

We did some deposit analysis of the material found in control valve & able to find the source. Issue is resolved.
