We have vessel jackets that are filled with Multitherm PG-1 (operating temperature 550 F, design pressure 150 psig), e.g. material that will sustain a fire. According to the vendor, they do not have vapor phase physical property data for it. Additionally, at relief it will be supercritical.

 

Would anybody be able to provide high level information about the use of "fire valves" (meaning valves that are actuated by fire, I'm not sure if I used the correct term...)? I assume one normally open (fail-closed) fire valve closes to shut-off flow then another valve would fail open to allow the PG-1 to drain out directly onto the floor and into the fire. Is this the normal way to handle this or is there a better method?
