The API 2000 Annex F gives different levels for tank blanketing, however, what is not clear to me after reading the document is, how can I be sure whether level 1 (minimum inert-gas blanketing) provides sufficient blanketing or whether I have to go for level 2 or 3 to ensure safety at all levels (personal, environmental, product)? 

 

The very first line of Annex F mentions "All three levels provide comparable flashback protection". Does this imply, that either of the levels can be used? If yes, then is it necessary to have a flame-arrester, as I understand from this topic (post # 5) by Montemayor, to avoid FA's whenever necessary.

I would recommend you to read the article related to application of flame arresters in the link below. German standard TRbF 20 has explicit guidelines for installing flame arrester application. Refer the links below:

Hi Raj Mehta,

 

1- It's up to you using each level for blanketing; but using level 1 will force you applying especial FA while using level 1 will exempt you applying any FA for flashback protection.

 

2- Yes, either of level can be used.
