This is for preliminary sizing of a compressor (basically a go/no-go analysis). If decided to go ahead, we are planning to work with a reputable convey system vendor.

The design is for 5 dilute phase polymer convey systems working in parallel fed from a single convey air header.

The need is to define the supply air pressure for those systems. There should be some pressure drop at the control valve to allow for flow control and make the system stable (that is, to increase the air flow if system tends to plug). However, that means higher power output in the compressor, and possibly a change from lobe to screw design.

We expect the convey pressure to be around 0.5 to 0.7 barg based on similar systems we operate and the length of the convey line with discharge to atmospheric.

Is there a quick rule of thumb as to the minimum pressure drop that should be allowed for the air control valve in convey systems?

Thanks.
