Dear Engineers,

We 've faced problem with C4s plant relief K-O drum.

After several controlled relief of C4 liquid (@ 5 barG 20 degC) we get -30 oC of liquid phase inside the plant KO drum. The lab analysis shows that there is no C3 hydrocarbons inside.

Do you have any idea why the relief temperature dropped far below the equilibrium temperature @ atm pressure? None of simulation software predicted so low tempereature.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best regards,

What is "controlled relief"? Pressure differential, flow, time from zero flow to full flow?

Controlled means the normal process depressuring and draining C4 liquid (5 barg @ 20 C) to flare ko-drum.

If the propane vapourized, it could have cooled the liquid, leaving cold butane behind - although I would have expected some residual C3 in the liquid.
