I've seen Triethylenetetramine (TETA) and caustic solutions used.  TETA where the hazardous waste is/can be incinerated.  Caustic where there is available waste water treatment capacity.

Thank you very much latexman. One more question? What about the concentration?

How can I calculate the concentration. Could you suggest me a starting point.

Is it feasable to use 1 mof water + 50-80 L of caustic + 40-60 L of TETA solution.

Hi,

I've attached a design of scrubber for other types of monomers ( Acrylic esters) , the concentration of caustic is about 10 % w/w.

To me the issue is what to do with the spent liquor , destruction is quite expensive .

Hope this helping you .

I've never seen TETA and caustic used in the same scrubber mixture.  I think it could, but that would create a bigger environmental issue to be handled.  Use one or the other, unless someone replys with some experience in this.

The scrubber liquid is usually a batch system.  TETA can start as a 50/50 aqueous solution and get depleted down until it is not effective enough for your system.  TETA solutions start off about pH 11; exhaustion is usually around pH 7.8-8.8.  In cold climates I've seen 50/25/25 to equal parts TETA, water, and glycol as the starting solution to guard against freezing.  These units are typically outside.

My experience with caustic is like breizh's; about 10%.  Start with 15-18% and deplete it down to about 7-8%, IIRC.

Thanks for the replies. I will use caustic with about 10%  w/w
