Hi all,

I would like to know if I were to have a recycle stream of a solvent in my process, how do I cost my initial starting solvent cost required during the start-up of the plant?

Because currently, I have simulated a recycle loop where most of the solvent is recycled while a small makeup stream is added. As the recycle flow rate is in tons/h I am unsure how to determine the initial solvent amount that I require during start up. I am thinking that I need to calculate the total residence time of all equipment in the recycle loop and multiply it by the solvent recycle flow rate, but I am not entirely sure if that is correct.

I hope you could help to clarify my doubts.

Thanks.

Hi cheisfun,

Solvent (initial charge) should be part of the Capex. Regarding the quantity , you need to calculate the volume of all the piping and equipment on your recycling loop where pass the solvent   . All the information should be available from the data sheet of equipment and isometric of the piping.

Good luck
