Hi all,

I am working on some heat exchanger calculation. And I am getting stuck with plate and shell calculation. Could you suggest me some ways to evaluate performance or design of this type of heat exchanger?

Thank you in advance.

Viet:

You are a recent member, so I’ll let you do the leg work and get familiarized with the contents and vast information available to our readers and members.  And by the way, the correct term is Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers - not “plate and shell”.  There is no shell in this design.

Chris Haslego, the founder of ChE Resources and its Forums is the acknowledged expert in the design and implementation of Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers.  Use our Search Engine and search for:

  • Plate and Frame Heat Exchanger Design
  • Preliminary Design Charts for Plate Heat Exchangers

And you will find what you need.  Download both and find out what you need to know about Plate and Frame design.

............and don't forget to thank Chris for his valuable contributions and efforts.

Dear Mr. Montemayor and Mr. Breizh,

Thank you for your responses, but the exchanger I am looking for is Plate and Shell heat exchangers, not Plate and Frame Heat Exchanger. Here is some pictures of it. And yes, it has a shell.

Hope you have a nice day.

Cuong

Hi,

You may consider to contact this German company for your query . it seems that HTRI has option for this particular type of HEX , circular plate and frame (shell) heat exchanger.

note: To get a meaningful answer you should tell us the issues you are facing .

Good luck

Breizh

Dear Mr. Breizh,

Thank you for your reply.

I checked with HTRI Xchanger Suite and there is no option for this type of heat exchanger.

As I wrote above, I am making some calculation to evaluate performance of some types of heat exchangers. And I am hitting the wall when coming up with Plate and Shell Heat Exchanger. I do not know how to determine the heat transfer coeffficient for this equipment.

Regards,

Cuong

Hi Cuong

take a look at the link above !

Unless you have the data sheet of the existing equipment there is no chance to get access to the heat transfer coefficient .

The heat transfer coefficient is very much linked to the design of the plate .

My view

Breizh
