Hello Engineers,

I Need your Help to Simulate (by Hysys) a Distillation Separation Process to separate 1-hexene from other components of 1-butene stream.

Components of 1-butene stream:

1-butene (Alpha-Olefin)

n-butane (Paraffin)

1-hexene (Alpha-Olefin) [This One is Goal]

hexane (Paraffin)

octene (Olefin)

I simulated a PFD but have problem in Separation of 1-hexene & hexane because of similar boiling points (63 and 68 Celsius). Distillation Separates them in Very High Condensor and reboiler duties (for example 800 kW).

After Search about it, I Understand it Needs Azeotropic Distillation (with another agent) or L-L Extraction Distillation (with another agent) to Distance their Boiling points to have a Simple Separation with desirable Cond. and reb. duties. But I Have Not any idea to Simulate Azeotropic Distillation or L-L Ext. Distillation for these 1-hexene & hexane.

Please Help me to Solve it...

Thanks

Hi ,

Consider the patent above to start with .

Any textbook on Distillation should help .

good luck

Hello Again

I read mentioned patent. it describes a condition to separate 1-hexene from hexane in an azeotropic distillation tower with DiAcetone Alcohol as Agent.

I have problem in Feed to tower. if we assume Tower Pressure is 1 atm, so Boiling Point © for:

1-hexene = 64 C

n-hexane = 68 C

DiAcetone Alcohol = 168 C   (Agent)

The Agent boiling point is much higher than Main components. so this illustrate Agent force rebolier to boil at 168 C , so Main components with lower BP will vaporize and rise up. Agent must Form Azeotrope with n-hexane to bring it toward Bottom. Therefore I conclude Bottom Product is n-hexane/DiAcetoneAlcohol and Top product is 1-hexane. Is it true?

If True, Please Help me to Simulate it with HYSYS. I Can't Separate 1-Hexane (1012 kg/hr) and n-Hexane (52 kg/hr).

Thanks
