Greetings to all the forum members.

This query is about making 60 percent w/w solution of Citric Acid from Anhydrous Citric Acid which is in solid form. For a 200 kg solution, we need to dissolve 120 kg of Anhydrous Citric Acid in 80 kg of water. The solubility of Citric Acid crystals in water depends on the temperature at which mixing is carried out. Still I did not find any information related to the solubility of Citric Acid which supports the fact that 80 kg of water is sufficient to dissolve 120 kg of Citric Acid crystals. Is it possible then to make a 60 percent w/w solution of Citric Acid using dissolution of solid form Anhydrous Citric Acid in water ?

Hi,

Let you use your favorite search engine : Key words ,   Solubility of citric acid in water .

I have prepared 1 kg of the 60% percent solution by dissolving 600 grams of Citric Acid Anhydrous in 400 grams of Deionised water. The dissolution did not take place at 30 °C. I had to keep the container under sunlight in order to have it dissolved. The ultimate density of that solution was 1.3 kg/Litre.

Hi ,

According to the data supplied I understand the difficulty !

Now it also depends on how  you introduce the solid in the solution , should be bit by bit . The mixing device will also play an important role together with the temperature .

My view
