What is the temperature of water to be considered at ambient condition?

Is it same as ambient temperature or wat bulb temperature?

hi ,

It all depends on the weather condition if you are talking about the water supplied from cooling water .

Yes it has to do with wet bulb .

In other words ambient means nothing or everything to describe the process condition!

To me you should check the statistics of the temperature and humidity of the air month after month  at your meteorological bureau or on line if available .

Good luck

Breizh

Dear Mr. Breizh,

If  following is the ambient condition then what will be the process water temp (i.e Make up water) to be considered if water is stored in Day tank.

a)

Mean Ambient temperature         :

46.6ºC maximum

3ºC minimum

35ºC average

B)

Mean relative humidity                :

89% maximum

50% minimum

60% average

Regards,

Santosh

Hi ,

It depends on the weather condition  , air temperature and humidity

You can use a psychrometric chart or you need to supply those data or issue a specification sheet with air temperature/humidity ( min, normal, max)   and the process  return water condition (temperature, flowrate ) to the cooling water manufacturer to size the unit .

good luck

Santosh:

46.6 oC = 116 oF

where are you living?  in the middle of the Sahara desert?

Are there any human beings living in the vicinity?  How long does this temperature last during a normal day?

How is the water to be used? You call it 'process water' and 'make-up water' stored in a day tank. That does not sound like it is used as cooling water. If this is make-up water for a cooling tower, then this temperature will have very little effect on the cooling water temperature seen by heat exchangers. Is the water stored in a metal uninsulated tank exposed to the sun? What difference does the water temperature make to you? Are you designing some piece of equipment or an entire process? Who told you the water is at ambient temperature? If this is temperature is a design criteria, then either design for the entire range of ambient temperatures if it makes little difference or if it is an important criteria then propose a design basis and get your customer to agree to it in writing.

Dear Mr.Art Montemayor,

This 46.6°C temperature is in the Indian state of Odisha.during Summer time for atleat one month.

Dear Mr. Pilesar,

My question is very simple that the water we used for any purpose stored in a atmospheric tank exposed to sun, what will be the temperature of water to be considered for design purpose (Dry bulb temperature or wer bulb temperature of ambient conditions?).

If I am using that water in scrubber for quenching of hot flue gas, then for saturationof gas ,the inlet quench water temperature is important to calculate the quantity of evaporated water.Because the evaporated water will vary based on inlet quench water temperature.

Santosh

Thanks for clarifying that this is NOT a cooling water situation. If the water is in a metal tank is exposed to the sun, the water may be even hotter than the air temperature. You have certainly experienced touching metal in the sun finding it much hotter than the air temperature. The same phenomenon can happen to a metal tank. The tank walls will absorb radiant energy and transfer the heat to the contents. If the tank is shaded, then dry bulb air temperature would probably be what I would use for assumed max water temperature. In the shade, consider taking the average 24 hour temperatures in the summer instead of using the max day temperature unless your tank is very small. Wet bulb temperature would not apply in this case since you are not intimately mixing the water with the air.

Dear Mr. Pilesar,

Thank you very much,I was expecting same.
