The client has a PVC waste gas scrubber. The design condition is unknown.

Scrubber is equipped with a down stream blower. So by the outlet of scrubber, pressure is around 900 mbara

waste gas from the system is normally around 1 atm.

Under an emergency case, the waste gas from the system could reach 2 barg.

Will the scrubber blow out?

Hi rikakose,

We need to be a wizard to answer your question ! I would say probably , at least interns , trays supporting the packing  could be damaged ,

You need to know the condition of the equipment (scrubber , blower)  , the design specification ,etc .This should be given to you by the client .

Will you or your company take liability in case of damage ?

what is the nature of the gas ? Can it be routed else where ?

What is the meaning of emergency ? Check for the availability of an Hazop study !

note : Make sure you take account the same unit for pressure ( gauge or absolute) , your description is confusing

my view , others may have a different opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

The attached sketch may make my question more clear. This is low budget and old plant. Scrubber has no specification, no measurement.

The operating condition is estimation and operators' guess.

Gas flow to the scrubber is mixture of air and small amount of acetone vapor.
