I am required to perform a HAZOP study on the P&ID diagram for the cartridge filter unit below. I first divided the unit to be analyzed into 3 nodes, the streams before and after dosing SMBS/Antiscalant,  and the stream leaving the cartridge filter.
I have identified a few deviation from the design intents (pressure, removal rating (5 Microns), flow)
Deviation  Causes Consequences Solution
Low Operating pressure Cartridge filter blocked Insufficient flow  Inspect cartridge filter for any replacements of its elements
Fouling                           Adding elevated SMBS dosage      High differential pressure across cartridge filter
Adjust dosing rate of SMBS
What other deviations could take place?

Hi,

To perform an Hazop study you need to set up a team of knowledgeable people from different discipline and then investigate all the possible scenarios. You cannot perform it alone .

Coming to my mind is the risk of backflow in case of valves stay open or leaking .

What about the compatibility of material ( chemicals, housing, cartridge,...) ,....

note : pay attention to the cartridges replacement , isolation of equipment , pressure drop before opening the lid , need for lifting equipment  , SOP ....

Good luck
