Dear Sir,

I want to know why we want to always maintain desalter pH as well as desalter Brine PH in between 5 to 6.

Plz explain in details.

What happens it goes above 6 and below 5.

How pH effects stabilizing the emulsion as well as zeta potential of emulsification as well as rag layer.

Breizh has presented a good link.  pH below 5 will tend to cause rapidly worsening corrosion of carbon steel components.  pH close to or above 7 helps organic acids form the soaps/surfactants.  A big part of this is that if you have a low pH it protonates the acids and pushes them into the oil phase.  if the pH is higher than the pKa of the acid it will ionize and stabilize the emulsions.
