Hello...i have EDC as solvent in my plant and it's contain heteroazeotrope with water..i have to separate them as in downstream low moisture EDC require..we currently just flash EDC(+wate and recover it by condensing and then separate it from water..but i think that it's not efficient..pls guide on this..

Hi,

You may want to contact the OP .He may want to share info with you.

Azeotrope.info

note : To get a meaningful answer you should explain what you have done so far on the topic.

Good luck

I am wondering what you are asking.   EDC means Ethylenedichloride

Dry edc ( water contain lower 10 ppm)  must be fed to the EDC cracking Furnace to Produce VCM, is is that you are talking about,

Dry EDC as a solvent is not a good idea, EDC has some cancerigen alerts

Confirm Please i can you give some advice

We have chlorination plant and EDC is used as solvent there are major chances of corrosion in SS reaction vessel if EDC has more amount of water content upto some extent moisture in EDC exceptable..so any efficient method for recovering water content from EDC(ethylene dichloride).

Water solubility in EDC is 0.86 % w/w then why it's azeotrope contain 8% w/w water content..i'm confused here also..any guide to understand heteroazeotropes also helps me on this..pls guide..

EDC is dry in a VCM plant (vinyl chloride plant ) using a distillation column called Head column. It removes water from edc using their azeotropic behavior by the top of the column. Dry edc goes to the purification column with 10 PPM of water as a maximum, keeping the bottom temperature of the head column at 97 C as minimum, we design this temperature for any process condition.

Dry EDC for small amounts was done by BF Goodrich technology years ago... using desiccant agents into solvent drying units, It is easy to  design and fabricated, but the desiccant must support at least 50 PPM of free chloride and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

I know that Oxychem  sells Dry EDC in the USA. They could help you to process this wet EDC or any VCM/PVC producer.
