Hi,

Is hydraulic liquid surge calculations carried out for on-plot (inside a unit) systems (pumps, valves)? I have seen these calculations generally carried out for off-plot long run piping or cross country pipelines.

If yes, then what is the criteria for these calculation for on-plot systems, because I have never seen these calculations for on-plot system (having said that, I may be wrong)

Thanking you in advance.

Take care and stay safe.

Regards

Search the internet for 'water hammer calculation' to see what is available. For short lengths, detailed calcs are not usual. Good engineering practice during design avoids most problems. Avoid slug flow when possible and support the piping. Avoid long straight lengths of two-phase flow. In plant, the cost adder is not great. For discovered plant problems, the solution again does not require too detailed calcs when the obvious change for example is just a slower valve closing or addition of a pulsation dampener.
