What are the considerations for providing the check valve on the reflux line to the distillation column ?

A P&ID sure would help us understand what you mean. Who do you think we are, “The Amazing Kreskin”?

In general, put check valves where they are needed. Evaluate any safety hazard in the process system. Typically, check valves are placed in pump discharge lines and you often see them after reflux pumps.

Hi,

Typically a check valve, in addition to the check valves at discharge line of each pump, is being installed in common discharge line of reflux pumps of distillation columns to make a double check valves arrangement for each pump in order to prevent reverse flow in discharge line of such high head pumps in case of pump failure.

Hi,

I agree with all comments above but make sure you have a way to drain the line in case of maintenance ( valve , flowmeter, pipe).

It has to be assessed case by case  .

My view
