Hi all,
We have a system where we have a production header( 900#) passes the well fluids to production separator( 300#) in between SDV is available. Production separator have a liquid level high high setting to activate shutdown  which will close the inlet SDV and also PAHH there at separator  to trip the incoming wells. kindly clarify whether blocked outlet case applicable for this vessel to size PSV. If yes whether to consider total incoming mixed phase fluid for PSV sizing.

thanks,
Mark

Hi,

Without having the relevant PID in hand, it's hard to provide a proper answer to your question...

hi Fallah,

Discussed scheme is shared , please suggest whether to consider total inflow as blocked discharge considering

Production separator have a liquid level high high setting to activate shutdown  which will close the inlet SDV and also PAHH there at separator  to trip the incoming wells.

thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

In the system you described, there would be two cases for blocked outlet as follows:

1-If the gas outlet is closed but at the same time the liquid outlet is open,  the LAHH will not be activated but the PAHH should normally activate. If PAHH, as an instrument, won't respond to this requirement, the relief case would be the total incoming vapor flow rate.

2-If the liquid outlet is closed but at the same time the gas outlet is open, the LAHH should normally be activated. If it, as an instrument, won't respond to this requirement, the PAHH should also be activated to protect the system but the response wouldn't be so fast to do the job. The relief case would be the total incoming two phase flow rate minus the outgoing two phase flow rate from the vapor outlet line.
