Density Meter For Inline Process Monitoring In A Distillation Column

Looking to exchange information on using various types of inline process density meters in vacuum distillation columns and asphalt terminals.

 

Do you have experience with vibrational viscometers like the ones here from Rheonics: https://rheonics.com...y-measurements/

 

What else have you used?

Hi,

For specific equipment in line like viscometer, densimeter you should consult Anton Paar, they are the Roll Royce on the market.

The other option is to install a mass flowmeter Coriolis type straight pipe, you will get more information (Mass flow, density, temperature) , I recommend the Pro Mass Serie from Endress& Hauser.

 

A google search will give you address of vendors in your area.

I have used the Endress & Hauser coriolis meters with good results.  In general, density is a better documented property and enables good accuracy with fairly simple curve fits over the range of interest.

I have had experience with anton paar and e&h

 

Anton paar portfolio is predominantly lab instruments - fopr that I agree it is really well built, we use for our lab checks too, their vibrational u-tube systems though used in in the line are restricted by small bore size.

 

E&H and Emerson predominantly coriolis, for an in-tank install that is an issue. For density only applications, it has too many constraints. thick stuff does not do well with coriolis

 

We just ordered the rheonics density meter https://rheonics.com/products/srd/the premise is quite good, in tank or line, no need for flow. Lets see how it goes, will share results once we have it up and running.

 

emerson used to have the tuning fork meter that also did density but the two tines have a opening that is inviting fouling. Solartron did hoop mode sensors but are mostly not available in market, old technologies.
