Per the latest Norsok Standard Edition 5, September 2006, maximum vellocities for flare headers and sub-headers have been restricted to Mach 0.6.
Some other standards also mention a maximum velocity of Mach 0.7 and Mach 0.8.
One standard in fact mentions an even lower velocity of Mach 0.5 for the flare main header in view of accomadating future expansions/debottlenecking
Also some standards mention sizing only in terms of the momentum Rho X V2. Norsok mentions restricting momentum to less than 200,000 kg/ms2
Even for the momentum criteria some standards have given lower values then given by Norsok.
I would think that the momentum or velocity criteria would also have relation to the line size.
I am confused by this conflicting datas. I would request an expert to give some answers regarding this matter.
