what should be the voptium value of L/G for flow in a wet induced draught cooling tower?i ve heard it should lie between 1 and 1.1.is it true?please clarify.

L/G ratio in cooling tower design effects the tower in tow ways .i-e. Height of tower and fan power
If we increase the L/G ratio the fan power required will increase and height of tower decrase and vise versa for decrease in L/G ratio. Now you have to optimaize between operating cost and installation cost ..
for quick estimate of L/G ratio ..... Look Perry's hand book of chemical engineering there .. Optimum heights of coolinh towers are given for several ranges and approches select such a L/G ratio that your height of cooling tower falls in between the optimum limista disscused in perry... hope this helps you out
