We have three centrifugal air compressors in our company, which supply required Instrument & utility air for our plant.
Two of them are in service and the third one stands by, also there is three air dryer. The configuration is as per attached file, in the site:
Normally our consumption is around 12 000 Nm3/h(Instrument & utility Air),normal flow rate for each compressor is 6900 Nm3/h.
One part of utility air enters to N2 production unit which located left side of compressor A, and the location of utility air header and instrument air is as per attached drawing.
The utility air consumption for this unit (N2 production) is 5900 Nm3/h(as you see it is one of our big permanent utility air consumers) and the rest of utility air consumer is temporary.
Instrument air requirement is around 4000 Nm3/h.
My questions:
There are different set points for master & slave compressors during operation,
---Why there are different set points for two compressors which are in service?
---How much should be the difference of two set points for master & slave compressors during operation? (I mean what are the important parameters on the difference?)
---Is the configuration of the compressors and dryers having any impact on the surge phenomena?
(Sometimes surge happens for our compressor)
Your prompt actions are highly appreciated.
