Hi all

I am currently designing a thermosyphon reboiler (waste heat boiler). The hot stream is mainly Hydrogen Cyanide 75% (weight) at a temperature of 1250C and a pressure of 2.06 bara. I am allow a pressure drop of 0.21 bar for the hot stream. I need to produce steam at a pressure of 40 bara and a temperature of 280C.

The boiler feed water is given at a pressure of 41 bara and I can select the temperature.

I have established that I need a horizontal thermosyphon reboiler with boiling on the shell for this application.

I have been trynig to simulate the thermosyphon on ChemCad but I keep getting errors, the true is that my experience with ChemCad is limited.

Can anyone help me with the simulation? (Note: I need the simulation runing to get the physical properties of the components so I can start with the design procedure)

Another question, what type of configuration will you suggest having in mind that one of the fluids (boiler feed water) is at 41 bar and the hot stream is a 2.06 bar.

This is my email address in case anyone can help me: en41kr@surrey.ac.uk

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hi,

I can't help you with ChemCad but I have some comments on the waste heat boiler.

At a gas temperature of 1250 C. a fire-tube boiler is recommended. This temperature is one of the highest you willl see in waste heat boilers. Since the hot gas will be inside the tubes, special precautions need to be taken in the design of the inlet channel. There needs to be refractory on the inside to protect it from the high temperature. Usually there are ferrules inserted inside the tubing.
