what can be the maximum value of Cd drag coefficient in determining the terminal velocity in separators?

drag coefficient depends on the flow regime... for laminar is 24/Re (Stokes regime), but if the droplets/particles are very small Cunningham correction should be accounted for... for intermediate (Allen) there are some relations where CD is proportional to Re^-0.6... for turbulent (Newton) regime CD takes the constant value 0.44... but this is ideal situation and true when droplets or particles are perfectly spherical (in the case of solid particle vary rare, in the case of droplets if they are relatively small and are not deformed and behave like a rigid body)... one of relations which includes shape factor (sphericity) was proposed by Haider and Levenspiel...

however, to be honest for separators a simple Stokes relation is commonly used as the droplet size and fluid properties are such that Re is usually < 1 smile.gif
