What are the types and components of lubricating oil.I am aware that there are also different grades of lubricating oil.Can I know how it could be analysed.A recommended site for further study shall be appreciated.

Each manufacturer of lubricating oils very probably uses their own proprietary "recipe" and each grade will also have a different recipe ... so I don't think there is any way to generalize the components in lubricating oil.

However, each grade has a set of mandated properties such as flash point, viscosity, etc. Those properties and how to test for each of them is available from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). You can contact them at www.sae.org

Thank you so much.That was a bit helpful though the site you referred me to didn't have much on the topic.Actually I am interested in the composition of the most standard grade of lubricating oil and its analysis.If you have info on this please do share it with me.Thanks once again.
