Hello sir

I need to calculate the heat load required by a heater to heat clay cakes from 35 celsius to 50 celsius. The air heated in the heater will be blown into a drying chamber at 3 cu.m/sec. The clay cakes contain 20% moisture. for drying 1 ton of the cakes what will be the heat load required? is it direct cooling or indirect cooling? can we consider this as convective heat? is it necessary to consider heat transfer coefficient in this case?

a lengthy question. Kindly extend your help..

I will be very grateful even if you answer a part.

Thanx in advance..
Rajesh

Dear Mr.Rajesh,

If you specify the total drying period, you have to consider the convective heat transfer coefficient for a forced draft tray dryer. Also, the hot air must be dry. Estimation of heat load is given in the attached table. Basis:

1.Sp.heat of clay = 0.22 kcal/kg degC,
2.latent heat for water =568.82 kcal/kg.
