When you scrub the acid gas by using appropriate chemical/physical solvent, the system can be designed in such way that it can selectively absorb H2S while slipping majority of CO2. Process design can be achieved by using the best performance solvent (e.g. Selexol, MDEA) and configuring the tower with such residence time that will not favor CO2 absorption. The phenomenon of selective absorption of H2S while majority of CO2 passes with the treated gas is called "CO2 slip".
